Maestro Scott Speck, Music Director of the West Michigan Symphony, will give us an abbreviated version of his 2010 Hackley Distinguished Lecturer talk entitled Music as an Agent of Change. Says Scott, “Music has been crafted by composers – often forcefully, sometimes very subversively – to try to change their world. Music transforms not only those who hear it, but especially those who perform it. And the flow of music shows us that growth and progress in our lives are possible only through real change. My artistic life has been organized around all three of these principles.” In addition, Scott is the Principal Conductor of the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago and Music Director of the Mobile (AL) Symphony.
